The Intel boxed board only had a silkscreen of an aux power connector while the Dell branded board actually had an aux power connector (in the same place). The differences were slight and as follows: Some years ago I bought an Intel BOX SE440BXIA motherboard and later found that the board was very nearly identical to the stock mobo in my Dell XPS R450. There are other makers/manufacturers that use the same type of design. I have a optiplex that uses a daughter card for the same thing.

Now the daughter card for the PCI slots I can see. You still need the normal connector at the other end, that is if you aren't using totally proprietary hardware, floppy, HDD and CD drives, which again would be more costly. And what would be the need for the different connectors on the board for those normal pieces of hardware, NONE. Especially with the 2400 as it is the LOW end system and anytime you do proprietary connections on the board it costs more along with more cost for the cable because they have to be made special for just your design. In todays world I find that hard to believe. The PCI slots are also on a daughter card that plugs in the edge of the main board. I've worked on Dimension 2400's in a clamshell case that have totally prop.
